White eyed prophet

وتولى عنهم وقال يا أسفي على يوسف وابيضت عيناه من الحزن فهو كظيم

“He turned away from them, saying, "I am grieving over Joseph." His eyes turned white from grieving so much; he was truly sad.” (Quran 12:84)

Whiteness, which is termed as cataract, is loss of lens transparency whether it is partial or complete opacity of the eye lens that prevents the entry of light. It is a degenerative condition and may be due to:

·         Decreased glutathione (antioxidant) content in the lens. Thus the accumulated oxygen radicals change the membrane permeability to water and ions as in senile cataract.

·         There is denaturation and coagulation of the lens proteins with deposition of calcium salts. 

Cataract is treated by surgical removal of entire lens and replaced by powerful convex lens in front of the eye or artificial implanted lens inside the eye.

To my surprise, the treatment of cataract is mentioned in the same surah (Yusuf) -WITHOUT SURGERY.

(إذهبوا بقميصي هذا قألقوه على وجه أبي يأت بصيرا وأتوني بأهلكم أجمعين)

“Go with this my shirt, and cast it over the face of my father: he will come to see (clearly). Then come (here) to me together with all your family.” (Quran 12:93) 

فلما أن جاء البشير ألقاه على وجهه فارتد بصيرا قال ألم أقل لكم إني أعلم من الله ما لا تعلمون))

“Then when the bearer of the good news came, He cast (the shirt) over his face, and he forthwith regained clear sight. He said: "Did I not say to you, 'I know from God that which you know not?” (Quran 12:96)

Note that the prophet's cataract healed when his is eye is casted with prophet Yusuf's shirt, through a revelation from Allah. This inspired Dr Abdul Basit Muhammad, an Egyptian scientist to study how can this be possible. What could be there in the shirt of Yusuf until it can cure cataract without surgery?!

Finally he came at decision that nothing except sweat could be on it. He began to search the components of sweat. He immersed lenses extracted from cataract surgery in sweat. He found out that a state of gradual transparency is established in these opaque lenses.

The second question was: are all sweat components effective in such a case or is it only one of its components?  He later realized that one of its main components was the urea (Goandin), and which could be chemically prepared. Results of investigations on 250 volunteers revealed removal of cataract and restoration of sight for more than 90%.

Allah the Almighty said; “And We send down, of the Quran, that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers.” (Quran 17:82)
